Kniphofia angustifolia, commonly known as the grass-leaved poker and icacane in Zulu, is a rhizomatous perennial reaching heights to about 65 cm when in flower. The plant grows solitary or in small colonies.

The species distribution is inland in the far north of the Eastern Cape and the southwest of KwaZulu-Natal, also in Lesotho. The photo was taken near the Sani Pass.

The habitat is moist, montane grassland at elevations up to 2450 m. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
